    Hello,

your confusing me. in another one of your video you mention that there is not different levels of hynotic trance, you either are or are not hypnotized. Her in this video you seem to allude to that there are different states of trance other then being truly hypnotizesd. Atleast that how im interpeted both videos.

  2. If I understand correctly, there are countless states of trance. But hypnosis is a unique state of mind. There are many trance states that ‘appear’ similar to hypnosis, however, they are not hypnosis per se. Hypnosis is a specific state that is ‘induced’. Would that be correct?

  3. Alexis says:

Well there are plenty of examples of hypnotic states that are acchieved trough various means such a tantras, meditation, rythmic sounds, dancing and drugs just to mention a few. The hypnotic state may be acchieved in various ways, in fact it appears to be a natural mechanism of our mind.

I suspect that the hypnotic state may very well be alot more actively involved in the way our brain makes decidions than we would like to believe. Essentially any time our mind is fuly focused on one thing (tunnel vision) this state occurs. Without induction these states simply last anywhere for fractions of seconds to minutes.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I would agree that there are other states like hypnosis but hypnosis state is a little different from the other states. The main difference being that suggestions are more likely to accepted during hypnosis. Advertisers always aim to elicit a state to attract attanetion and more. I think in other hypnosis states, suggestions may be accpeted but in hypnosis most suggestions will be accepted.

  5. Alastair says:

    Hi,

What you say is very plausible. I have told people before that we go into trance states all the time, e.g. on a long journey, and it didn’t feel right to assimilate this with hypnosis. Many things cause trance, as well as hypnosis, but trance is no way an indicator that hypnosis is taking place. The uncritical acceptance of ideas is an indicator of hypnosis, trance could just mean boredom, pondering some interesting thoughts, heightened emotion, anything.

  6. Jon Chase says:

Trance is not hypnosis. It is a symptom of hypnosis which is actually an unsatisfactory word suggestion which is the induction of a reality.

you give me alot to re-think……..

  8. Hamid says:

Thanks Jonathan, I love your teachings. I’m a beginner hypnotherapist and you can be a great teacher for me!

  9. Phil says:

    Hi

I think you’re splitting hairs. It’s rather like saying drinking water from a cup is not natural, as cups are man-made. Not to worry – I like the videos, and after being told hypnosis is pointless unless it’s analytical (there were 4 pages about analysis on the course I did after all !!!), your book Don’t Look In His Eyes is a breath of fresh air.

  10. Michael says:

I was wondering, when people are frightened or shocked, that must be a hypnotic state? a traumatic incident is etched on the memory, never forgotten and an aspect of the incident avoided for life.Is this correct?

  11. Brillion says:

is medation some what like hypnosis?

    • JaneB says:

Hi, meditation is certainly a way of getting your mind into state, but hypnosis is about direct suggestion to your subconscious mind. You do not have to be in trance or any induced state to have suggestions work in your subconscious.

So meditation is meditation and hypnosis is hypnosis.

Hi, Jonathan. I really love your videos. I really can not wait for more videos from you. I am fascinated by hypnosis and I hope that I will learn everything about hypnosis. I want to be able to hypnotize and to really understand what it is that I am doing.

I look forward to the day that I will be able to hypnotize. Therefore, I am happy that you explain a lot of aspects of hypnotism so that I will know more than just to hypnotize people.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You are great.

    Ekrem.

  13. Jon I want to learn from you – perhaps in person also- your videos are great – but the volume is a problem – I have it turned up all the way – but its not loud enough- is there anything you can do- hard to hear you on the video-
